Hey all,
There’s a reason it feels like your devs are reaping all the benefits of AI, and your platform teams keep falling further behind.
Because it’s true. Just look at the numbers:
90% of developers have adopted AI, and they spend 25% of their workday using it, according to the 2025 DORA Report. Meanwhile, Spacelift’s research shows that 50% of infrastructure teams still take a week or more to deploy changes, and 43% have to rerun their deployments at least four times.
Think about that: Four times. At some point, that's not a retry. That’s paying with your time for a systemic failure.
Predictably, the industry has responded by saying: “Generate Terraform faster. Give an AI a prompt, get HCL back, paste it in, run the pipeline. Problem solved!” Except the problem isn't solved, because writing Terraform isn’t the bottleneck. What happens after you write it is the bottleneck:
The pipeline that rejects it. The approval that's waiting on three people in three different time zones. The governance process that nobody redesigned when AI entered the picture. The security misconfiguration that slips through because no one thought to check.
AI-assisted code generation just puts more volume into pipelines that are already clogged, increasing pressure without fixing them. It keeps IaC as the only deployment path. It doesn't touch governance at all.
We've known this for a while. And it's why we started building something different.
Introducing Spacelift Intelligence
That something is Spacelift Intelligence, which we’re launching today.
It’s an infrastructure assistant embedded directly into the orchestration layer, giving it context that a standalone AI tool could never have. It knows your stacks, resources and policies. And it can act on all of them, not just describe them.
Intelligence covers the full infrastructure workflow (not just the deployment part that everyone obsesses over):
Understand. You can ask questions your own reports probably can't answer: Which stack manages this resource? Which of my S3 buckets are missing encryption? Where am I bleeding money on unattached Elastic IPs? It searches your actual infrastructure state, not a documentation page, and gives you a real answer.
Design. Before you deploy anything, you can talk through the architecture. Ask it how to manage a multi-account Terraform configuration without duplicating code. Get expert advice before you commit to a path that's expensive to undo. That way, you can design with best practices and have a clear understanding of what you actually have deployed.
Deploy. If you want to fix a misconfiguration but don't want to write HCL yourself, you can ask Intelligence to create an Intent project, import the resource, fix the problem and convert it back into a managed stack when you're done. The whole workflow stays inside Spacelift, with the same credentials, policies and audit trail you'd have on any other change.
Govern. This is the part I'm most proud of. Once you've fixed something, you can ask Intelligence how to make sure it never happens again. It'll suggest plan policies and then write them, deploy them and explain exactly what they enforce. No more S3 buckets without encryption. No more hoping someone on the team catches it in review.
The result: infrastructure that finally moves at the speed of development, with the governance to make that safe.
A Meaningful Shift
Intelligence alone can’t fix your infrastructure. I've said this before, and I'll say it again: If you haven't done the work of understanding your dependency graph, agreeing on ownership and establishing what "good" looks like for your organization, no AI assistant will do that work for you.
Intelligence can make it dramatically easier to get from a messy state to a governed one. That's a meaningful shift. But the decisions about what to fix, and in what order, still have to come from you (although Intelligence can help you make more informed decisions and better understand their impacts on your business).
We are offering Intelligence for free to all existing Spacelift customers through the end of June. If you try it and have thoughts, I genuinely want to hear them.
Thanks for reading, Marcin
P.S.: We're also showcasing Intelligence at KubeCon Europe this month. If you're attending, come find us at booth #796. We’re also hosting an upcoming webinar on Intelligence. To register, visit events.spacelift.io/introducing-spacelift-intelligence-keeping-infrastructure-pace-at-ai-speed.
